9/17/2023 0 Comments Hotel great wolf lodge gurneeHence why we sang at 3 as soon as we could get the pizza and cake. Then when I went to sit down another parent in the group told me there were roaches. I thought it was just one and brushed it off. We sang around 3pm however my son told me on the way to the bathroom mommy there are bugs in here look. I had reserved a birthday party package to make sure he had cake and pizza. Sunday morning, everyone had breakfast together and the kids went into the water park around 12:30. So we decided we would visit the water park tomorrow on his birthday since it was closing in an hour. We decided to let the kids play in the other areas until the room was ready it didn't become available until 6:50. Upon arrival our room was not ready but I was going to request a late check out anyway and the staff member comped that. I reached out about a birthday party package but decided to stay overnight based on all the activities offered. Because he was born in April and loves the water, an indoor waterpark was ideal. I rented the biggest suite so that my son could have a big birthday bash with all of his friends. ROACH INFESTATION I stayed at the LaGrange location for my son's 6th birthday. When we arrived we were given a room key for a room that was already occupied……we were compensated our breakfast package and given late checkout (which we didn’t need or want, we couldn’t wait to leave) for our troubles/embarrassment.… LOTS of unsupervised kids running all over Our only negative experience was at check in. We ended up spending the rest of the day at Pine Mountain and went hiking, exploring, and firefly catching at FDR State Park (the park is beautiful, we had a great time here) 4. We were bored after ~2 hours at the water park and I couldn’t imagine having to spend an entire day, or longer, there. Room was dirty (trash/chip bags were left in our room) 3. If you buy the breakfast be prepared to spend $15.99/person (if prepaid, more if not) on a breakfast that’s pretty much identical to what you’d get for free at any Hilton or Marriott 2. The only other close options are: Waffle House, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Arby’s. The stay wasn’t awful but there’s a few things I wish we knew about beforehand: 1.

If you’re searching for a new mattress to address your back woes, you should have a checklist in hand. Many of the qualities you need CAN co-exist in the best mattress for back pain. If it seems like you’re on the hunt for a unicorn, don’t worry. You’re looking for a mattress that doesn’t run hot but that also keeps you cozy on a cool night. You need a mattress firm enough to support your spine but soft enough to hug your hips. Profiling the Best Mattress to Eliminate Back Problems If you suffer from sciatic nerve pain, the best mattress for you must conform to your body to support your spinal discs, because sciatica is often the result of a herniated disc. This is because sciatica, a condition that relates to the sciatic nerve, can originate in your lower back but spread down to your thighs. Many sciatica patients think they actually have a pulled leg muscle. The best mattress for back pain will offer consistent support (you shouldn’t have firmness near your head but lumpy, broken springs near your hips). When you’re on your side, the Foundation recommends keeping one pillow between your knees and another under your head. If you sleep on your back, make sure your pillow doesn’t push your head forward and consider placing a pillow under your knees. Consider the best mattress for your back pain the tool that helps you make this advice a reality. The National Osteoporosis Foundation has some recommendations for better rest with alignment in mind. You may end up with dull, referred pain that moves around or a more acute axial pain from a strained muscle. When your neck, spine, and hips are out of whack you’ll feel it. Alignment Problems:Īh, alignment problems. Your best mattress will come complete with deep compression support so that uncomfortable shoulders don’t quickly lead to major upper back pain. A firm mattress and supportive pillow keep your posture straight even when you’re unconscious. If you’re laying with your shoulders crouched or neck bent unnaturally all night long, your body is going to rebel big time. This includes your position during your sleeping hours. Upper Back Pain:īad posture is a common cause of upper back pain. A firm mattress is probably the right move. The best mattress for lower back pain will provide ample support to your hips and side as you rest. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke recommends sleeping on your side in a loose fetal position to reduce the strain on your lower back. About 80% of adults report this type of discomfort at some point in their lives. Lower back pain is basically an epidemic. The place on your body where you most experience pain can help inform your purchase decision.įor example, the best mattress for back pain relief may be different for side sleepers and back sleepers.īut, let’s focus on that nagging ache you have first. No matter how you developed back discomfort, finding the best bed cushion for back pain is a crucial ingredient for effective pain management.īefore you go mattress shopping, think about which type of pain you’re trying to address and your own sleep habits. If you’re resting with your neck at a bad angle, sleeping atop a slouching (read: not the best) mattress, or snoozing with one arm over the side of the bed to stay cool - you could wake up feeling like you fell down the stairs. And, yes, the rumors are true: you can even hurt yourself while you’re asleep. Sleeping on the wrong mattress can be the genesis of a pain problem, or it could exacerbate an issue you already have. What if we told you your old mattress was the source of your woes? If you’re experiencing regular discomfort or flat out suffering, finding the best mattress for back pain relief could change your life. But some back pain doesn’t stem from your waking hours. You even got those dorky inserts for your shoes. You got an ergonomic desk chair at work and you always stretch before you hit the treadmill. You can find a lot of ways to cope with chronic back pain during the day. You’re also not 100 years old just yet, but apparently, someone forgot to tell your lower back. Admit it, sometimes the thought of a hot bath with eucalyptus Epsom salt offers a bigger dopamine hit than the idea of an oversized margarita. 9/17/2023 0 Comments Venture fund definitionInformation about a private equity fund’s adviser that is registered with the SEC is available here.Ī private equity fund is typically open only to accredited investors and qualified clients. It has made my life as an SLP and teletherapist SO much easier!! I love that it is all online so all of my documents are online. Even though I still use some paper for data collection, it is awesome how much less I use in comparison to when I worked in a brick and mortar setting.” - Megan B., SLPA, Arizona I don’t have to email long lengthy emails to explain things. It has all my data/notes in one section that my supervisor has access to at anytime. “I think SLPTK is amazing, especially for my situation. Last, we wanted to know the impact the software had on their day to day as a teletherapist. Picture stimuli being embedded in a test vs. Students being in different time zones (making it hard to accurately document for Medicaid) We asked if any challenges persisted specific to the teletherapy setting as they used the program more frequently. Solution: Now that I have the hang of it (for the most part), it has saved me time! I am still using paper/pen for those students that make it difficult to quickly type in a few notes into the app but I give myself a few minutes in between students to quickly document in those cases. I wanted to use it for documentation and I initially found out that it took me some adapting to switch from paper to the app. I will use that to ONLY show the small pictures on screen (I don’t open them full screen) while I record their responses and mark thumbs up or a flag. Solution: For the articulation pictures, in Zoom, there is an advanced sharing feature. Problem: Students can see when I flag their answers as incorrect on a test. Solution: I take a “snip of the picture” and share that on one monitor while I type their responses on another monitor. Problem: Presenting assessment pictures and not being able to type student responses when pictures were pulled up on screen. I am using my iPad in my lap to take data, which works out fantastic. Solution: I purchased a second monitor for screen sharing purposes. Problem: Tabbing from the therapy platform to SLP Toolkit for data collection. Here are some of those issues, plus how these creative therapists problem solved through the issues: Once they got started, we wanted to know what actual challenges arose. There were some concerns about how to show images when giving tests, overall compatibility with the teletherapy platform, and how the workflow would be tabbing back and forth to take data during a session. Many respondents were specifically drawn to the data collection feature, but others were looking to use the tests or to eliminate paper as much as possible.Īnother thing we wanted to know was what mindset barriers they had before using SLP Toolkit. We first wanted to get a sense as to what drew them to using SLP Toolkit in the first place. We polled some of our current users who are providing teletherapy services online and here’s what they had to say! One of the most common questions we get is about the compatibility of our software with SLPs working in a telepractice setting. 9/17/2023 0 Comments Flags of our fathers bookTo be fair, a lot can be accomplished in 400 pages that cannot be achieved in two hours of screen time. But unfortunately, the film falls short of translating the power of that memorable book penned by James Bradley (with Ron Powers). As in his masterpiece- Unforgiven-his characters often employ violence for the best intentions, but then carry burdens of doubt and damage afterward.ĭoc Bradley, with Walter Gust (Stark Sands, right), recovers from wounds after the battleĮastwood's film succeeds more fully in asking profound questions than providing any satisfying answers. Having played a heroic gunslinger so many times, the 76-year-old Hollywood legend seems determined to de-glamorize violence and revise our definition of heroes. The subject of violence preoccupies Eastwood in film after film. The horrors continued, playing like a highlight reel in their heads-driving them to silence, depression, and worse. (The Japanese perspective will be revealed in Eastwood's companion sequel, Letters from Iwo Jima, in February.) And the suffering didn't end when the Marines came home. And, in their opinion, the real heroes were killed on the island.Īll told, about 26,000 lives-almost 7,000 Americans and over 19,000 Japanese-died on and around Iwo Jima. Their own flag-raising was not the glorious moment that everyone seems to believe it was. But as they wave and smile, they are haunted by the fact that Soldier Field is nothing like Mt. Thus, we see Bradley, Gagnon, and Hayes, the three from the photograph who survived, welcomed as heroes for surviving the greatest siege in American military history. Ira Hayes, John 'Doc' Bradley and Rene Gagnon are greeted as heroes upon returning home from the war "One photo, almost all on its own, turned that around." "The country was tired of war," says a retired captain (Harve Presnell) as he thinks back. Thus, it was printed, imitated, and reenacted to keep spirits high-and to keep the dollars coming in. It inspired us to strive for victory, and brought comfort to the worried families of Marines. Rosenthal's image captured America's imagination. And it works-the cheering people open their wallets to show their support for those troops still fighting against Germany and Japan. They're taking part in a vigorous military propaganda effort, persuading patriotic Americans to purchase war bonds. The Marines are standing in Chicago's Soldier Field, under a sky full of festive fireworks, waving to the Americans who have taken such comfort from that dramatic black-and-white portrait. No, this is a recreation on a peak made of papier-mâché, staged for a cheering crowd. When they reach the peak, they triumphantly lift an American flag.īut this is not the moment in that famous 1945 photo taken by AP reporter Joe Rosenthal atop Mt. Marines who appear in the ubiquitous photo called "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima."Īs the film opens, we watch three servicemen-John Bradley (Ryan Philippe), Rene Gagnon (Jesse Bradford), and Ira Hayes (Adam Beach)-climb a steep slope. So is war propaganda.īoth of these observations are powerfully illustrated in Clint Eastwood's new film Flags of Our Fathers, which is based on James Bradley's book about the lives of the six U.S. 9/17/2023 0 Comments Calculus ab vs bc admissionsSome of my one-on-one SAT/ACT tutoring clients attend very prestigious private high schools that treat AP classes as the holy grail, making a huge deal out of them…yet these are also often the schools that cap the number of APs one can take in a year.Īs you might imagine, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It’s also worth noting that, regardless of the technical rules around APs at a given institution, the culture around APs also varies between different high schools. Often, you’ll have to work around a) what’s even offered at your school, b) how many APs your school allows you to take, and then finally c) what subjects interest you. So it’s actually pretty rare that a given high schooler will get to “choose” whichever AP course they want to take from the College Board’s list of over thirty courses. Still other schools allow students to enroll in just a small handful of APs from the College Board’s list. A third category of schools DO offer APs, but with restrictions: say, sophomores can only take one AP, or Juniors can only take two, etc. Some schools use IBs (International Baccalaureates) instead, while some use their own “honors” system. Top strategy for deciding which AP classes to enroll in Advanced Placement classes in the Social Sciences How does the College Board grade AP exams?ĭ. So let’s try to optimize your shot at success by helping you figure out which AP classes will highlight your strengths come application time!ĭoes every school offer Advanced Placement courses? To put your most impressive foot forward, you’ll want to earn as many passing scores as possible.but ideally 4's and 5's. As the College Board (more on them in a minute!) shares on its website: “85% of selective colleges and universities report that a student's AP experience favorably impacts admission decisions.” It’s long been clear to me, a college admissions expert, that APs are important. (I speak from experience: I attended just such a high school!) After all, your college application will be squaring off against those of students from intensely academic high schools where taking a full schedule of AP classes junior year is the norm. How do you demonstrate that rigor? Well, one important way is to take as many AP classes during your sophomore, junior, and senior years as you can handle, if your school offers them.īut here’s the thing: you’ve got to do more than just take the hardest classes available during high school-you also need to succeed in them. When a student has this quality, it means he or she has got a consistent record of not shying away from learning challenging content….and of kicking butt once they’ve enrolled. When they’re reading college applications, there’s one important criterion that the admissions committee uses to separate the wheat from the chaff: academic rigor. |
